Beacon Hill makes an entry into the written history when Daniel Egan, a member of the NSW Parliament, purchased 80-acres land in Beacon Hill on 5 October 1857. The area was only named 30 years later however, and was called ‘Beacon Hill’ after the iconic trigonometric beacon was built there in 1881.
