Geography:

Beacon Hill is a small and pretty suburb located in the prestigious Northern Beaches region of New South Wales. You’ll arrive in Beacon Hill after just a short 17 km drive from Sydney CBD, making it ideal for holiday homes or those who like their suburbs with a side of fun.  Those who move to Beacon Hill love it for its double identity: it’s small enough to feel tight knit and neighbourly, but its prime location provides all the glamour and you associate with the Northern Beaches. Just a stone’s throw from prime beaches and plenty of shopping and dining experiences, Beacon Hill offers a little something for everyone and is a lovely place to live.

History:

Beacon Hill is a relatively young suburb, with housing development starting slow and most of the modern houses in the suburb built in the boom days after World War II, in the 1950s and 1960s.  The area began its life as a pocket of natural bush inhabited by Aboriginal tribes. Many remnants of the area’s rich Aboriginal history still remain and can be viewed today, particularly in areas north of Redhill.  Beacon Hill makes an entry into the written history when Daniel Egan, a member of the NSW Parliament, purchased 80-acres land in Beacon Hill on 5 October 1857. The area was only named 30 years later however, and was called ‘Beacon Hill’ after the iconic trigonometric beacon was built there in 1881.

Beacon Hill Real Estate:

Beacon Hill is a wonderful place to live and the property prices reflect that, with the average home being in the region of $ 1,500,000. This, however, is a complete bargain when compared to many of its Northern Beaches neighbours, making Beacon Hill an excellent place for those looking to settle in the area without paying a Manly price tag.  If you’re still on the hunt for a home to buy in Beacon Hill you’ll find the majority of the houses in the area are 3 bedroom or larger, many of which have excellent views.  The neighbourhoods are well maintained and quiet and the housing price trends have been steadily climbing over the past 2 years – showing no signs of slowing down.

Lifestyle Profile:

According to the last census the majority of the residents living in Beacon Hill are established families with children, with a median age of 39. There are only 6,899 people who are lucky enough to call Beacon Hill home, making it a lovely suburb for those who enjoy the benefits that come with being part of a community. The average size of household sits neatly at 3.1 and the average household income is in the region of $2000 per week.
